A pretty boutique hotel on the water? Count me in for a staycation.
Two weeks ago I made the trek across the Golden Gate Bridge to a quaint hotel and spa in Sausalito, California. If you’re unfamiliar with Sausalito, it’s a cute little coastal town directly across the Golden Gate from San Francisco. It’s very charming. I love Sausalito because it’s an easy way to escape the hustle and bustle of San Francisco, while still staying at arm’s reach. If you’re visiting San Francisco, Sausalito is worth the trip for good food, cute shops, and incredible views of the city (go to the Marin Headlands for a breathtaking view of the Golden Gate and thank me later).
So obviously when Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa invited me to stay and round out the year at their property, I said yes.
They put me up in one of their mansion suites on the hillside with incredible views of the harbor— and it was amazing. My porch balcony was a literal dream.
The suite itself was super spacious, and would be perfect for a weekend with the girls or a romantic getaway. Did I mention there was a fireplace in the living room of the suite? Swoon.
Unfortunately it was raining when I arrived, so instead of exploring outside I spent the day soaking up the views from my balcony and cozying up in my nautical themed room with their Glyph hot toddy kit. They have a really good “Savor the Season” special that includes 15% off their best available rate, plus a hot toddy cocktail kit by Glyph Whiskey— which is all made right here in San Francisco.
It was a very relaxing evening, but nowhere near as relaxing as the spa was the following day.
I had the opportunity to get my very first professional massage at Casa Madrona’s spa, and wow. How do I finagle getting a massage everyday for the rest of my life? It. was. heavenly.
I took advantage of their spa happy hour which makes stacking multiple spa treatments more affordable and time efficient. They offer a “you-pick-two” mini treatment menu. Basically, their standard hour long treatments are available in 30 minute increments, so you can combine a massage and facial without blocking out your whole day. Complete with a glass of champagne, of course. This month is winter wellness month, and February will be self care themed (Valentine’s Day, anyone?). Run and book your appointment now.
Overall, I had the best time. A quick trip to the coast was exactly what I needed to reset for the new year. And I couldn’t have asked for a better hotel or experience.
If you’re single (or taken) and you’ve never done a staycation by yourself, I highly recommend. It’s a great way to recharge and treat yourself— because you deserve it. Plus, you shouldn’t have to wait for a man or rely on your friends to visit amazing places. Book the flight. Get the hotel room. Just go.
