20 Things You Realize When You Know Your Worth

FILED IN: Lifestyle

You’ve likely heard the saying: “know your worth, then add tax.”  It’s one of my favorite quotes. I think knowing your self-worth, and standing up for what you deserve, is so underrated. Especially in women. I am the furthest thing from a feminist (I might lose some followers for saying that), but I wholeheartedly think that women doubt their worth far too often. Whether that be in relationships, or in careers, no one is ever going to value you more than you value yourself.

I spent the majority of the last 12 months single, and did a lot of self-evaluation during that time. The thing about a break-up is that you usually come out the other side of things stronger and more aware of what you have to offer. I think this really helped me establish my sense of self-worth and set the standard for how I want other people to see and treat me.

I now have a “love me or leave me” mentality when it comes to dating, because I know the right guy will appreciate me for exactly who I am. And I know when to stand up for myself in the workplace, whether that’s negotiating a raise or voicing my opinion in a meeting. It’s refreshing to know my value, to be honest, and it’s something I wish I had a handle on years ago.

Once you know what you bring to the table, it’s a powerful thing. Here’s what I realized, once I knew my worth (in no particular order).

1. When you know your worth, asking for compensation for your time and work, regardless of the project, feels right.

2. When you know your worth, you feel more comfortable negotiating a raise or promotion.

3. When you know your worth, you have less of a problem saying no to things that you don’t want to do.

4. When you know your worth, you can be yourself in all of the various relationships in your life.

5. When you know your worth, you know that you can speak up in a meeting, because your opinion matters.

6. When you know your worth, you know that it’s okay to walk away from someone, or something, that doesn’t better you.

7. When you know your worth, you know that if he doesn’t choose you, he wasn’t the right guy (and it’s his loss).

8. When you know your worth, you have no problem investing in yourself.

9. When you know your worth, you are confident in who you are and what you believe.

10. When you know your worth, you recognize the difference that you can make, because you’re unique in what you bring to the table.

11. When you know your worth, you know that you’re enough, just as you are.

12. When you know your worth, you don’t let people walk all over you.

13. When you know your worth, you’re selective and choosey, because settling isn’t an option.

14. When you know your worth, you take pride in your work.

15. When you know your worth, you don’t let your weaknesses define you.

16. When you know your worth, you don’t overanalyze whether or not they like you, you assume that they do.

17. When you know your worth, you trust yourself and your decisions.

18. When you know your worth, you don’t need constant reassurance.

19. When you know your worth, you know that your time is valuable, and only give it to those who deserve it.

20. When you know your worth, you believe the right person will see it too.

This week I found that I was questioning my worth, and needed to check myself. I know that it’s not always easy to see your value every minute, of every day, because shit happens. Your day can go from a 10 to a 3 in a matter of seconds, but it’s in those moments that you need to build yourself back up. There will never be another you, and that is your power. I hope this post reminds you of that.
