You can chalk it up as writer’s block, or blame it on life, but either way– TOM (The Ocean Minded, for those who don’t know) and I have been MIA.
It’s been almost an entire month since my last blog post (wait, what?). A whoppin’ thirty days. I can sit here and make excuses all day but what it really comes down to is being too busy to write, and too unmotivated to make the time. Sometimes a break from the internet is good– to take a step back, focus on the real interactions in front of you, find new inspirations and regroup. If you allow yourself the grace to slow down, and some space to breathe, you’ll have a better grasp on things when you’re really ready to dive back in. And, well, I’m ready.
So, here’s a quick update on what’s been going on.
First of all, I moved. One of my longtime girlfriends and I jumped on some prime real estate, and then 3 days later I jumped on a plane to Hawaii. Settling into the new apartment has been a mix of fun and exciting, stressful, and financially-exhausting. Since I lost the majority of my belongings to a breakup, I had to start from scratch. New pots and pans, new dishes, new flatware, new wine glasses, new furniture– you name it, I had to buy it. While I’m so happy with how the new digs has come together so far, it has taken up a big chunk of my time and energy as of late. Between perusing Pinterest for decorating ideas, making nightly errand runs, and obsessively hunting for the perfect dresser to finish off my room, it has been a lot.
In the midst of it all, my mom and I did a mother-daughter trip to Maui, Hawaii. I chose not to blog from this particular trip because I really wanted to take the time to relax and unplug with my mom. We spent most days conked out by the beach and pool, sipping cocktails and eating. It was great, and a trip that I will cherish forever. However, the thing about vacation is that when you come back you’re quickly thrown back into reality.
After our trip, I came back to an insane work week. There were countless emails, meetings and projects to attend to (that I had so easily and willingly ignored from the Island). Said work week almost killed me, but it led to a long overdue promotion and raise. So, that was cool.
Other than that, I attended my 10 year high school reunion (yeah, I’m old), caught up with friends– old and new, and have been devoting all of my extra time to dating (one lucky guy, who shall remain anonymous for now). It’s been fun, and so rewarding to focus on real human interactions, instead of hiding behind my laptop for hours on end.
That being said, in the thick of the hustle and bustle, TOM regrettably took the bench. After a thirty-day hiatus, I’m ready to jump back in and spam you with new content. If you’ve made it down this far in the post, you’re a rockstar, and you’re the kinda people I like to keep in my little corner of the internet. I have a lot of fun blog ideas, trips, and collaborations brewing ’round here, and I can’t wait to share them with y’all. Stay tuned!
