As the 4th of July approaches, it got me thinking about the American dream. By definition, said dream is the right for each human to pursue his or her own idea of happiness. It seems like whatever that is, whatever tickles your pickle, is what you should be doing on the fourth to celebrate the good ole U S of A. Regardless of whether that’s frolicking in the sunflower fields, binge-watching American classics on Netflix in your pajamas, watching your hometown parade, making s’mores for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a lake day, catching up on work, hiking, a neighborhood BBQ, ocean swims or lounging around the pool— chase your American dream.
On Independence Day you can typically find me with family and friends, in a new bikini, by some type of body of water with a chilled adult beverage in one hand and carbs in the other. That’s the good stuff that makes my soul burst. Since the fourth falls in the middle of the work week this year, I’ll be bouncing back and forth from my parents’ backyard to my best girlfriend’s pool. While they aren’t reach-for-the-stars plans, it’s the simplest, everyday kinda things in life that feel the most patriotic to me.
Cheers to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness— because #merica.
