This month, I transitioned from working 100% remotely, to commuting in to the office a couple days a week. While it’s a nice change of pace, that means that I’m typically in the car for 5 hours each day, which is way more taxing than it sounds. That California commuter life is rough, ya know?
Thankfully, I bought my Jeep just in the knick of time. With Sirius XM, Bluetooth capabilities, a sunroof and a heated steering wheel, it makes the ride a teeny bit more enjoyable. That being said, not even all of the Sirius XM channels combined can keep you engaged and entertained for five hours. You start to hear the same songs over and over and over again, and it gets annoying. So, to that end, I’ve been dabbling with different podcasts over the past few weeks.
Here are some of my favorites, for mindless entertainment.
Scrubbing in with Becca Tilley — I love Becca Tilley for a lot of reasons, and her podcast is one of them. If it’s a podcast about Grey’s Anatomy, dating mishaps, reality TV, BFFs, fashion and beauty— sign me up. I literally feel like I’m causally hanging out with my best girlfriends, and not stuck in traffic, when I tune in to this one— which is a win in itself.
Guys Be Fucked — Take this one with a grain of salt. I like listening to this one towards the end of my commute home, when I’m tired and grumpy, because it’s hilarious and light-hearted. Guys Be Fucked is about two twenty-something comedians dishing about their relationships and sex life.
Straight Up with Stassi — Stassi Schroeder is my spirit animal. She’s blunt, real, sassy and sarcastic, and I love that. Straight Up with Stassi is a podcast about sex, careers, current events, fashion, relationships and everything in-between.
Sword & Scale — If you like Law & Order SVU, you’ll like this. Sword & Scale is a true crime podcast that is equal parts disturbing and captivating. I like this one, because before I know it, I’m halfway through my drive— and that earns 5-stars in my book!
Girlboss Radio — There are a couple shows under this umbrella; 1) Girlboss with Sophia Amoruso, and 2) Self Service with Jerico Mandybur. I watched Girl Boss on Netflix a few months ago, and loved it, so I wanted to give these podcasts a shot. They’re funny, informative and intuitive, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. These are good ones to listen to in the morning, on the way to the office, in a “you’ve got this,” pep-talk kinda way.
