If you’re anything like me, you need a mini vacation to recover from the holidays. A holiday hangover, if you will. Getting back in to the swing of things— work, eating healthy and working out— can be especially hard after overindulging on your days off.
Instead of a gym membership, I do a bootcamp class three times a week and kickboxing once a week. The classes are a combination of cardio and strength training, and they really kick your ass. It’s something new every day, and it’s great. We recently did a workout at bootcamp, a pyramid of sorts, that I loved. It was a ton of cardio, but it also got your legs, abs and arms shaking, which is ideal to counteract all of the boozy holiday festivities.
This particular series of exercises takes about 30 minutes, give or take, but you can go at your own pace. All you need is a yoga mat and a set of weights (I used 8 pounders).
So, here we go, let’s kick that holiday hangover.
30 weighted squats
30 bent-over rows with the dumbbells
30 reverse lunges with a curl
30 push ups
30 jack-knife sit ups
2 sprints (find a landmark, like a tree or streetlamp in the distance— running there and back counts as 2 sprints).
Each round, you will subtract 5 repetitions from the strengthening exercises and add 2 sprints. So the next round will look something like this.
25 weighted squats
25 bent-over rows with the dumbbells
25 reverse lunges with a curl
25 push ups
25 jack-knife sit ups
and so on and so forth. Continue to subtract the strengthening reps and add to the sprints until you get down to 5 squats, rows, lunges, push-ups, and sit-ups and up to 12 sprints.
I suggest doing this with a quick 3-mile run before hand, but if you’re struggling to find motivation, the pyramid alone will get the job done.
Also, shout-out to Lilybod for the cutest workout outfit. Their leggings feel like butter on my body, which I’m all about, especially after drinking my body weight in buttery chardonnay. Shop their new arrivals, here.
