I debated even writing this, because it seems silly— to write a blog about a seasoning when I don’t even like to cook. Who am I? The fact is, I’m addicted to this stuff. Everything bagels from Starbucks used to be my jam. A few years ago when I was training for the half ironman triathlon, and doing an obscene amount of cardio, I would stop at Starbs for a coffee and an everything bagel after swim practice on my way to the office. Every. Single. Day. Obviously, once the training ended, so did my carb-filled mornings.
Now, I rarely eat bagels, but am constantly thinking about them. My prayers have been answered with Trader Joe’s everything but the bagel (EBTB) seasoning. It’s almost as good as a real bagel. Almost.
I use it at least once a day, and am constantly trying to come up with new ways to incorporate it in to my diet, because it’s just that good. So if you’re in to it, here are four of my favorite ways to use my EBTB seasoning.
1) Hardboiled eggs. I go through phases of liking hardboiled eggs, and not. Sometimes the texture just really freaks me out, and I can’t eat them without adding some sort of spice (pink himalayan salt at the very least). Right now, I’m in to them. Until recently, I’d load the eggs up with a dash of Tajin (another fantastic seasoning) for a kick, but now I’m all about EBTB. I eat this a few times a week, and I can almost trick my mind in to thinking it’s a bagel.
2) Avocado. Full disclaimer, I love avocado. I can eat it plain with a spoon, on avo toast or mashed up in guacamole. I love it all. Recently, I’ve been eating a makeshift avocado toast on GG bran crispbread, an all-natural, fiber-loaded cracker, which is supposed to help curb your appetite (thanks, Skinny Confidential). I take one or two of the crackers, mash up half an avocado and top it off with some everything but the bagel seasoning. Holy yum.
3) Popcorn. I don’t eat popcorn all that often, but when I do, it’s air-popped, drizzled with some olive oil and topped with Tajin and everything but the bagel seasonings. So good, y’all. Try it.
4) Hummus. Over the summer I got on this make-your-own-hummus kick. I usually opt for a simple recipe— chickpeas, olive oil, lemon, a few spices, a bit of water. Normal, right? Here comes the genius idea. Instead of adding garlic, salt and pepper in to the blender, I used Trader Joe’s everything but the bagel seasoning. Once the hummus was in a bowl, and chilled, I added a few more dashes to the top for good measure.
