I love a good, skinny margarita— especially in the summer. I say skinny, not because I’m counting calories, but because the overly concentrated, sugary margaritas that most restaurants and bars tend to serve upset my stomach. I prefer the tart, light and natural-flavors that you would typically find in a skinny marg. When I make them at home, I usually stick to a fresh lime juice and agave nectar combination and stay away from any pre-made mixes all together. Plus, the lighter it is, the more you can drink (win-win).
So naturally, this spicy grapefruit skinny margarita is right up my alley.
Generally speaking, I actually really hate grapefruit— but mixed with the agave, lime and jalapeño, it’s a totally refreshing and yummy cocktail meant to be enjoyed in the sun. If jalapeño isn’t your jam, skip that step and you’ll end up with a homemade skinny grapefruit margarita instead.
This recipe is guilt-free with no added sugar or preservatives, just all of that really fresh and natural goodness— just how I like it.
Now, let’s get mixing.
What you’ll need (serves 4)
8 ounces silver tequila
10 ounces of 100% natural grapefruit juice
4 ounces of freshly squeezed lime juice
4 tablespoons agave nectar, or more to taste
4-8 slices of jalapeño, depending on how spicy you like it
Tajin seasoning + sugar for the rim of the glass
Lime + grapefruit wedges for garnishing
Mix some Tajin seasoning and a pinch of sugar on a small plate. Line the rim of the glass with lime juice and then dip the rim in the sweet and spicy mixture.
Add all of the ingredients in a large pitcher and mix well. Add a couple of ice cubes to your glasses and pour the spicy grapefruit margaritas over ice. Garnish with additional jalapeño (if you like it hot), and a wedge of lime or grapefruit.
Happy hour just got hotter. Cheers!
