I’ll be completely honest with you, I was intimidated by the slip dress. It gave me total Clueless (it’s actually called the “clueless mini dress”— coincidence? no.), 90’s vibes which I wasn’t positive that I could pull off— I mean, as if.
I ordered it anyway, because any dress that’s as versatile as the slip dress is worth a try— right?
I’ve already styled this dress three ways, and coming from someone with a legit fear of outfit-repeating, that’s pretty dang impressive.
So, here we are. If you’re curious how to wear a slip dress, keep reading, I’m basically a pro now (not really).
- The fancy slip — I wore my slip dress from Boutique To You with black, lace-up heels and a simple, black velvet choker to a wedding. I got a ton of compliments on said dress, until I spilt my vodka right down the front of it (warning: satin doesn’t masquerade spills very well).
- The throwback slip — I channeled my inner 90’s alter-ego and layered it over my favorite t-shirt and paired it with my go-to black ankle booties. This style takes a little more confidence, especially when your boyfriend is giving you the side-eye, but it’s trendy. Cher would have been proud, so whatever.
- The casual slip — I decided it was time to give the slip a more homegrown, California-boho twist so I threw on my totally-over-worn denim jacket, some neutral open-toe booties, a suede, bolo choker and grabbed a chambray, palm clutch from Elizabeth Scarlett (because what’s a west-coast inspired outfit without a little beach vibe).
Which look would you try?
The color is perfect. The outfits are endless. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m already looking forward to the next time I get to slip into this gem of a dress (pun intended). I’m such an outfit repeater, sue me.
Moral of the story— go buy a slip dress. Like right now. Put down your coffee and run, don’t walk, to the mall.
